WRMC SERVICE AWARD — Wilkes Regional Medical Center received a silver level award recently at a Carolinas Healthcare Systems (CHS) awards program. WRMC award with cut Wilkes Regional Medical Center ranked as one of the top hospitals for quality and service scores in 2010 among the 33 healthcare facilities either owned or managed by Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS). WRMC achieved a top score in seven out of eight of the system's quality goals. Gene Faile, the chief executive officer of WRMC, was presented the CHS Record Breaker Award for Customer Service at the annual CHS "state of the system" held recently. This top five award in CHS was presented by Michael Tarwater, chief executive officer of CHS and Joe Piemont, chief operating officer.
CHS owns 10 managed acute care and specialty hospitals and manages 23 others. CHS manages Wilkes Regional for the WRMC Hospital Operating Board. The WRMC Diagnostic Center was recognized for improving the service excellence overall quality of care score by 70 percent over the previous year. This was the second CHS system award for WRMC for the year. At the annual Quality Sharing Day recently, WRMC received a silver level Touchstone Award for the emergency department quality project "Emergency Department to Inpatient Admission Turn Around Time." The Touchstone award was presented to Barbara Overby, director of quality improvement and Leigh Combs, regulatory compliance manager, by Joe Piemont, chief operating officer, and Dr. Roger Ray, executive vice president of medical affairs, CHS. Barbara Overby, the hospital's director of performance improvement, said "Our journey to excellence is rewarding. I greatly appreciate Ryan Greene, manager of the radiology department&344; Sandra Miller, patient access manager for the radiology department and diagnostic center, and their staffs for their teamwork and dedication to excellent customer service. "Also, I would like to thank the LEAN Team and all clinical staff for their support in making the emergency department inpatient admission turn-round time project an outstanding success." On average&344; emergency room patients see a physician 18 minutes after entering the hospital.
